The Lotus flower in all it’s beauty stole my heart when I visited the Adelaide Botanical Gardens for the Chihuly Installation and hence my painting “Water Flower” proceeded. A Cooper Copenhagen silk scarf in my wardrobe was the perfect pairing to the background of the lotus with it’s marbled patterning forming similar feelings to the moving of water in the breeze. The watery blues delving slightly towards greener tones are grounded with intense areas of deep grey then contrasted with highlights to create a sense of light on water and the depths below. Lotus Flower has a movement stemming from it’s central receptacle and into the background giving this work a feeling of energy.
