Inspired by the Helmet shell in my collection, this work has a rhythmic textural quality which I found very interesting to paint. The contours and concentric patterning upon the shell bring a captivating perspective to this work and were quite beautiful to represent and a challenge to execute. I selected a rippling patterned fabric for the background to infuse the sea feeling, playing on the coastal reference while adding a unique representation and context for the still life. Equally impactful standing alone I also created a second work featuring a Melo shell with the background fabric mirrored, this was a new technique and visual tool I employed to connect two works in a cohesive language of pattern.
